Shawn Halperin uses a variety of methods to create her depictions of birds and forest, loons and landscapes. She carves wood, but she also paints on canvas or wood, uses natural or dyed bark, and mixes these various media together to create interesting and compelling textures and illustrations.
Her goal in working as an artist is to create pieces that capture the essence and beauty of the natural world and convey it in an interesting and non literal way.

Shawn studied the arts at Cazenovia College and Syracuse University, graduating with a BFA in Sculpture. Since then she has worked in wood block printmaking, mixed media collage, and wood carving. Shawn has exhibited her work throughout New York State at the Schweinfurth Art Center, Remington Art Museum, Cooperstown Art Association, Adirondack Museum, View Art Center, Lake Placid Center for the Arts, Giant Mountain Gallery, Adirondack Artist Guild, Northwind Fine Arts and Pendragon Theatre. She held the position of Adjunct Professor of Studio Art at Paul Smiths College, and since 2017 has been a member of Cazenovia Artisans.
