WEARABLE ART

I have been exploring art and design through various media all my life. My delving into fibers lead to the creation of the textural fabric I call Silkcloque: layers of hand dyed silk and felted wool, which drapes and molds into rich organic shapes. Along with my wife, Dorita, we started Reyen Design Studios. We both completed our M.A. in Fashion and Textile Design at Syracuse University. At Cazenovia Artisans we offer a variety of garments and accessories in shibori dyed and felted silks. There are scarves, hats, jackets, tops and skirts in an assortment of styles and fabrics. We strive for both fabric and fashions with a distinctly organic look of having been grown rather than made.

Our work is based on the concepts that clothing is a necessity, but style is a choice, and that true art is timeless, and that apparel should be about artistic and individual expression and not trendy fashions. It’s also about color, texture and drama. The pieces are designed to become exclamation points for a woman’s natural beauty, an outer skin waiting to have life breathed into it by the wearer. Elemental colors, the juxtaposition of airy transparency and earthy texture reminiscent of the subtle growth of lichens, are the stuff that becomes the graceful, sensual clothing that are the creations of Reyen Design Studios.
