PAINTING
Watercolors By Dick English

ARTIST'S STATEMENT:
Dick English's watercolors reflect his deep attachment for the rural landscape and rolling hill country of Upstate New York, where he grew up. His favorite subjects are old barns, fields and woods. He is best known for his winter landscapes. But, his subjects also include the Adirondacks, seacoast Maine, South Carolina's low country seacoast and scenes from his travels abroad. Although the subjects are different, the paintings share many common elements of light and atmosphere. His paintings are realistic, employing both the wet-in-wet and dry brush techniques of traditional transparent watercolors. They are characterized by strong design, control over brushwork, and attention to details.

Dick English started painting with watercolors in the 1950's, and has shown and sold his work in central New York since 1979. He has had several one-man shows and has been included in many important juried exhibitions, such as the Adirondack National Exhibition of American Watercolors in Old Forge, NY, the Hudson Valley Art Association Millenium Exhibition in New York City and the St. David Celebration of the Arts in Dewitt, NY. He was a featured artist in the WCNY Television Art Invitational in both 1994 and 1998.

His paintings are included in many private and public collections around the United States and abroad. He is a signature member and past president of the Central New York Watercolor Society. He is also a signature member of the Hudson Valley Art Association, the Associated Artists of Syracuse and the Cazenovia Watercolor Society. Dick's paintings can also be seen at the Tavern in the Lincklaen House, 79 Albany St, Cazenovia, NY.
