Carl Hoffner
Digital Paintings and Traditional Lithographs
As the newest member of Cazenovia Artisans, Carl Hoffner invites you to view his new digital work as well as a selection of his traditional lithographs.
Inspired by the beauty of the Central New York region, Carl portrays nature in all its colorful glory. The hand of a true colorist is evident in the blaze of pure hues found in the digital paintings shown above.
Carl has been creating fine art lithographs since 1985. His work has been shown in over 300 galleries throughout the United States, Europe, Australia, and Asia. He has exhibited in many premier art festivals in the United States. Prestigious corporations such as Agway, IBM, Ford Motor Corporation, General Motors, Pfizer, and Northwestern Mutual have added his work to their collections.
He received a BFA in painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, Maryland in 1975 and an MFA in studio arts (painting) in 1979 from Syracuse University, Syracuse, New York. From 1975 to 1977, Carl worked as a free-lance courtroom artist for a Baltimore/Washington television station.
During 1978, Carl began to study printmaking when he was awarded a Summer Fellowship from Syracuse University. The same year, he was awarded a Ford Foundation grant. In 1982, he chose to be one of the few artists to embrace lithography as his primary medium.
Most of his early lithographs were drawn on and printed from Bavarian limestone. During 1987, he began to experiment with color by drawing on and printing from several stones. The texture of the stones and layering of different colors created the rich, luminous, and soft tones for which his lithographs are known.
Recently, Carl has turned his attention towards digital paintings. This new and evolving art form uses computer equipment and software to draw and paint original works of art.
