Dana Brown

Dana Brown has been working with wood for over 20 years. He began as a carpenter, but then realized that his true passion for wood lay in making beautiful and durable objects for the home. He has always been drawn to the tactile qualities of wood – even as a boy he loved to hold a piece of wood in his hands, turning it, feeling its warmth and organic beauty. Dana’s attention to every detail of his work reflects his perfectionism. His view is that any piece, from a spoon to a bench, should be well made in all aspects. He is influenced by the aesthetics of the Arts and Crafts movement, as embodied by Frank Lloyd Wright and the famed California architects Greene and Greene. After years of creating and showing beautiful furniture, Dana has more recently turned his attention to smaller objects, making beautiful bowls and spoons for cooking and serving. He often collaborates with other artists, such as potter Bobbi Lamb, to make pieces that incorporate both wood and ceramics. When he can, Dana gets his wood, which includes Cherry, Maple, Walnut, and Black Locust, from his own property in central New York, where he lives with his two dogs, Tucker and Daisy.
